Got Toddlers? Win a Melissa & Doug Toddler Toy - Contest Closed

Congratulations Misty and Faigy Topp - you both won a Melissa & Doug Toddler Toy!
Like most parents, we wanted to give our children the best possible start to life. When choosing from the hundreds of toys in the local toy store we tried to select age appropriate educational toys which would not only let our little guys have some fun, but help them learn the necessary develpomental skills and reach those important milestones. Sometimes this simple task was quite daunting! That was until Melissa & Doug came to the rescue!

We love Melissa & Doug educational toys. For 20 years they have continued to create products with tremendous value, quality and design. Dedicated to safety, they ensure that their toys meet or exceed all government relulations concerning heavy metals and lead in children's items.

Given our love for their toys, we were excited when our friends at SensoryEdge offered to host a contest and give one random winner a Melissa & Doug Toddler Toy. It's easy to enter - just take a minute to visit SensoryEdge and comment on this post telling us one fact about their company or website (Please either add your email to your comment or email it to us at so we can contact you if you win). If you have a blog/website we'd love you to link to this post too (but not needed to enter). We'll be selecting one random winner on Friday 6/27. Winner will be able to choose between the All Star Sports Bag, Toolbox Fill & Spill or the Pretty Purse Fill & Spill Good Luck - we're looking forward to reading your comments!

US hospitals doing poor job of promoting breastfeeding

The CDC announced last week that most U.S. hospitals don't do very well when it comes to promoting breast-feeding. Hospitals located in the West Coast and New England states scored the highest however they reported that practices unfriendly to breast-feeding were common throughout the country.

Formula or another supplemental substance was given to healthy infants in more than a quarter of hospitals even though the mothers were willing and able to breastfeed.

Nutritional experts states that there were no nutritional benefit to giving the supplement but that this practice was commen when trying to quiet a baby who was seperated from their mother. Continue reading this story...

Counting Down to Vacation & Need Your Advice!

Everyone's getting exciting in our house as we leave for vacation in just over 2 weeks. This will be a really great summer for the kids as we're spending 7 weeks with Grandma. I'm from the Channel Islands which are located between the northern coast of France and the southern coast of England. We're about 10 miles from France so intend to spend much time there.

The children are busy deciding what to take with them! They'd take their whole closet if they could! Trying to limit what they pack is going to be a challenge as they are managing to justify each toy and game.

Not loooking forward to the journey though. We have an 11 hour flight to London Heathrow. Then we'll treck across London to Gatwick, followed by a 45 minute flight to Jersey. As my husband is staying at home (summer is his busy season) I have to make this long journey alone with 2 young children (6 & 3).

I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. Passports are renewed and luggage is out of the shed. Already called the airline and reserved 3 bulkhead seats and ordered 2 kids meals and 1 vegan meal. Gameboys are all set with new batteries and new games for the flight! Somehow though, I'm sure I've forgotten something? I'd love some advice and tips as to how I can make this long journey a little easier. Please post your advice and I'll compile all the tips and share them so we can help all families can travel a little easier this summer. Thanks for your help. Can't wait to read your suggestions.

Weight Loss Challenge Update

Lost 2lbs (1.45%) in the first week. 3 weeks to go. My plan this week is to continue to eat well and add more exercise. I'm dying for chips and can not manage to walk past them at the grocery store.

Will I make my 10lb goal or was I aiming too high? I'm sure you've all got lots of tips and suggestions for me. Feel free to add your comments and help me out!
