US hospitals doing poor job of promoting breastfeeding

The CDC announced last week that most U.S. hospitals don't do very well when it comes to promoting breast-feeding. Hospitals located in the West Coast and New England states scored the highest however they reported that practices unfriendly to breast-feeding were common throughout the country.

Formula or another supplemental substance was given to healthy infants in more than a quarter of hospitals even though the mothers were willing and able to breastfeed.

Nutritional experts states that there were no nutritional benefit to giving the supplement but that this practice was commen when trying to quiet a baby who was seperated from their mother. Continue reading this story...
