Book Club - The Milk Memos

Finally, the first book review in our SuperMomz Book Club! Are you planning to return to work after your maternity leave or struggling to balance work and family? If so - read on - as you won't want to miss this great book.

This week I've been reading The Milk Memos: How Real Moms Learned to Mix Business with Babies-and How You Can, Too. When I first picked up this book, I thought it would be a fictional story and not at all useful to a new nursing mom about to return back to work. However after just a few pages I realized how wrong I was!

The book provides vital information for moms feeling torn about returning to work after maternity leave. Alongside valuable tips and checklists, this book cleverly features the daily pumping room diary of several nursing moms at IBM. As you follow their story you'll learn how they deal with the challenges of balancing work with their family. They'll inspire and energize you as you read how they survive pumping and overcome all the obstacles that come their way.

I laughed as I remembered dragging my breastpump to work and trying to find time to get away to pump just as the Milk Mamas do. Their diary entries not only cover breastfeeding/pumping but also the guilt of leaving the baby, finding childcare providers, establishing a schedule and negotiating with your employer.

The Milk Memos captured the exact feelings and emotions I experienced and brought back some fond memories too. I'm sure I'll be giving this book as a shower gift in the new future and recommend it as a must-have for all working moms. Have you read it? Post your thoughts/review below to share with your fellow nursing moms.
